Verisign is out with their quarterly domain name brief, illustrating the state of domains as of Q2 2014, and reports that the internet is up to 280 million domain names registered globally across all TLDs – a 7.2% increase from Q2 2013. ┬áInterestingly, ccTLDs (country code TLDs like .DE and .UK) make up almost half of all domains. As well, Verisign reports that their average daily DNS query load (the number of times a domain name is requested, for example when your browser tries to access a web site) increased almost 20% from the previous year.
